National Library revokes permission for Burnham Foundation’s Independence Exhibition
Press Release
May 23, 2022
This morning at 8:45 a.m. The Forbes Burnham Foundation received a call from the National Library indicating that the exhibition for which permission had been given on April 25, 2022 could no longer be held since the Library will be using the foyer for its own activity. Imagine such a decision being conveyed on the morning when the exhibits were about to be put on display. The Foundation can come to no other conclusion other than that a political directive was received to disallow the Burnham Foundation the use of the National Library Foyer to mount an Independence exhibition.
Independence Message
Today as Guyana celebrates it 55th anniversary of Independence the Forbes Burnham Foundation reflects on the struggles that saw us through to Independence in 1966 and thus far. 20We embrace the vision of our ancestors and founding leaders as we strive to protect and enhance our Independence through economic and social development with a human and equitable face. We reach out to all of Guyana in this process. We salute our foreparents, commit our selves and strive to make Guyana a better place for generations to come. Happy Independence to one and all. As we celebrate let's give thanks, take a moment to reflect, and recommit to the development of this our homeland.
